Cat Care 101

Every cat lady has to start somewhere. I have been a lover of cats for nearly 5 decades. I remember meeting my first litter of kittens like it was yesterday. At the age of six or seven, my parents packed the six of us girls into the car and headed to Arkansas to visit Mom’s sister, who lived on a farm with her husband and children. 

Not long after our arrival, we joined our cousins on a trek out to the barn to see the animals. The cows, chickens, pigs, and the horse were interesting. Then it trotted up to me, a barn kitten, followed by its littermates. Click! I was fascinated by these little animals and felt an immediate connection.

For the week we were inseparable and I begged to take one home with us. When it was time to visit another aunt a few towns over, my hopes were dashed. I had to leave the kittens behind, but I never forgot them and the feeling of connection I had felt around them.
